About STA

Aims of the Stirling Tenants Assembly

The STA future aims are not just to be a group which represents Council tenants from all over Stirling district, but to be an organisation that represents tenants of local RSL's in the district. The aim of the STA as stated in their constitution is:

“To safeguard and promote the interests of Council and RSL tenants on all matters concerning housing, environment, social and community life of the area. STA will actively encourage membership of tenants and to give all tenants equal opportunities”

The STA is registered with and being currently funded through Stirling Council. The STA hopes to register with any RSL where tenants from that landlord become regularly involved.

Benefits to Tenants

Tenants from different landlords will be able to get an understanding of how other landlords operate and will be able to use this knowledge to compare how their landlord operates. Tenants will be mixing with tenants from other landlords and will be able to see and understand common problems. They will be able to be aware of national policies and see how these are being implemented locally. The STA will be organising local events and visits to other organisation in Scotland, as well as hosting visits from other organisations.

Support

The STA are supported by many organisations as they strive to maintain full tenant representation in all policy issues affecting tenants.

Financially, and organisationally, Stirling Council and Communities Scotland have supported the STA.

TPAS (Tenant Participation Advisory Service) and STP (Stirling Tenants |Project) have been instrumental in lending continued support throughout the work carried out by the STA and this continues to be the case for all of these organisations.

Other additional support has been received from Chartered Institute of Housing and the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations together with numerous numbers of small and large tenant groups and individuals who have shared their experiences with us for the benefit of all tenants.

We will continue to maintain this level of support to tenants with the continued association of the above, however we need more members to help us carry out the enormous burden of work that falls on us to do.
