About Stirling Tenants Assembly

Who are we?

We are a group of tenants who formed the Stirling Tenants Assembly in 2003.  Some of us are members of tenants groups where we live, and others are tenants from areas who have no group but are interested in Housing. Anyone can join our group, as long as they are a tenant of Stirling Council.

How did we form?

Following a consultation conference held by Stirling Council in 2000, a support project was set up to make contacts tenants about their Housing service.  This was about to be disbanded in 2003 and a few of us resolved to continue the work of the support project, but to take it one step further.

At a conference held by the Tenant Participation Advisory Service in Dunblane Hydro in 2003, the Stirling Tenants Assembly was born, and we set up a Committee, a Constitution was formed and we Registered as a tenant organisation with Stirling Council. Since then, we have built up a good rapport with Stirling Council and other tenant groups.

What do we do? 

We discuss and make decisions on all aspects of Housing services including: Rents, repairs, allocations etc.

We also have a tenant led inspection team which looks at certain aspects of policy relating to Housing and this team examines roles,procedures and policy of that service.   The team will then produce a report and make recommendations to the Council.   Such subjects inspected include: Estate Management; Gypsy Travellers; Homelessness and reactive repairs.  A new inspection is currently being considered.

We don't, as a rule, deal with everyday complaints unless their is a direct lack of communication which results in tenants being ignored, then we will deal with it as an issue that affects everyone.

We also attend Conferences, Regional Meetings etc to ensure that we are kept up to date with changes in legislation/policy and hear the views of others from across Scotland.
